Due to the 2021 health crisis we were unable to go to Portugal as planned.
This year we can finally go there we haven't been there since 2003.
We leave Les Chéres around 1:00 p.m., we take the motorway towards Clermont-Ferrand, pass through Bordeaux and we stop around 8:00 p.m. on a very beautiful, very quiet and green motorway area towards Parentis en Born.
We continue our route towards Portugal via San Sebastian, Burgos, Valladolid, Badajoz we cross the border at the end of the afternoon we arrive in Elvas where we thought we would find an area mentioned in the Motorhome magazine but this one does not exist anymore.
We find a place mentioned on Park4night at the foot of the castle, we will spend a quiet night despite the high heat.
We continue the tourism by visiting Evora, the heat is stifling, we parked on the Motorhome area.
On Park4night we spot the possibility of parking with a private individual in Oriola supposedly on the edge of a lake, the area is very average we swim all the same, even if this one does not inspire us much, in the end afternoon we go to the village, we have a beer, an ice cream at an unbeatable price.
We continue towards the South, we take a break in the charming village of Mertola while doing some shopping.
In the early afternoon we arrive in Tavira where we reach the area, there are few people, afternoon beach, it takes 45 minutes on foot to get there.
In the evening we go to the restaurant in Tavira, we take the opportunity to visit the city, Tavira is not by the sea, we find that this city does not have much charm even if it is quite touristy because of the island of the same name.
Day in Tavira, in the morning we go to the market and buy octopus, in the afternoon we go to the island of Tavira (the boat costs 2.2 € return).
Swimming is impossible on the ocean due to waves, but the island is very lively with many restaurants and a superb white sand beach.
We leave Tavira, we visit Santa Luzia the village of octopus fishermen.
We reach Praia de Barril beach (anchor beach) which we reach on foot and not by the little train.
We go to Olhao where we go to the halls to do some shopping, the afternoon swimming at the Praia de Faro.
We wanted to sleep at the Faro area but it is full, we find parking for the night with other Mtorhomes, just before the bridge to reach the praia de Faro.
(at the end of the the airport, but there is no plane at night) before that we visit Faro.
We leave Faro, we visit and do some shopping in Quarteira we walk along the long beach, Quarteira is a modern seaside town without any particular charm but still very pleasant.
We are going to the Praia de Falesia area (Aire Algarve Motorhome park) there are 2 places left, we are lucky the place is in the shade, afternoon beach (500 meters from the area).
Rest day on the beach in the splendid beach of Falesia, at the foot of the ocher-colored cliff which is reached by a beautiful wooden footbridge.
In the morning we go to the Loulé market, which is said to be picturesque but very touristy with not very competitive prices.
Return to Falesia area and beach afternoon.
We reach Albufeira and its very cheap area and very well located because relatively close to the city center.
Restaurant evening and city walk, Albufeira is a festive city where restaurants and bars follow one another endlessly with intense night activity.
Depart Albufeira for Armacao de Pera.
We do our shopping and spot the start of the Praia de Marinha hike.
We go to the Elodie and Romy area, a bit expensive for the location and the equipment.
Afternoon beach even if this one is 45 minutes away.
Today, head to Praia de Marinha to take the "path of the seven hanging valleys" excursion with superb views of the cliffs, swimming on the way back, too bad that many coves are overgrown with algae.
The end of the hike is difficult due to the heat.
After that we go to Carvoeiro because we saw free parking on a parking lot, admittedly this parking lot is small but we are lucky a place becomes free on our arrival.
We will swim on the beach in the center of Carvoeiro which is reached by a 500 meter long wooden pontoon.
We will spend a carefree night in this car park we are 8 Motorhomes.
Wednesday 20 Thursday July 21:
Departure Carvoeiro, passage to Portimao where we do the shopping.
We reach the Praia de Alvor where we will park 2 nights without worries on the old motorhome area.
In the evening visit of Alvor with meal in the restaurant. The 2nd day visit of Sagres, on the way back stop in Lavos, where we visit the city.
Friday 22 and Saturday 23 July :
We return to the Albufeira area where we spend the afternoon on the beach.
In the evening we go to the restaurant where we taste a delicious Arroz de marisco. The city is always lively and festive.
We return to Praia de Falesia but the Algarve Motorhome area is full, we go to the one located next door, certainly a little less side but the services are equivalent, only difference there is no shade.
We leave Praia de Falesia and do in Quarteira the Portuguese breakfast with coffee croissant for a ridiculous price.
In the evening we return to the Faro car park towards the airport where we spend a free night.
For our last full day in Portugal we reach Tavira and its area.
We take the boat to spend the afternoon on the island, the day is very hot.
For the last hours in Portugal we are visiting the village of Cacela Velha, and Praia de Altura where many motorhomes are illegally parked.
We take our last Portuguese meal in Vila Real de San Antonio at the 2000 restaurant, the menu and the quality are delicious, the city is very pleasant and very lively.
We take the direction of Spain, we will spend the night in an area about 250 km before Valencia.
We decided to go through Andorra, we arrive there around 6:30 p.m.
We spend the night in Grau Roig (ski resort) we find freshness with 9°C in the morning.
We do our shopping in Pas de la Casa.
At the end of the day we arrive in Albi, we go to the free area and ideally placed.
We arrive home around 5:30 p.m.
We did a 22 night stay, we did 12 nights in a motorhome area.
Despite the ban on wild camping throughout the country, we found wild bivouacs.
We traveled 4416 kilometres (the majority to reach Portugal).
We only stayed in the Algarve because of the beauty of the landscapes and the beaches.
We're saving the rest of the country for another time.
Cost of living lower than in France (especially meals and drinks).
The fuel is substantially the same price as in France.
