Due to the health crisis we chose our destination late.
Initially we thought of going to Portugal but we change our minds because the situation is uncertain in this country.
We choose Greece, but we will only visit Peleponnese.
We have to take the Ferry the day after our departure at 7:30 p.m. to Bari.
For this we leave on Friday around 3:00 p.m. in order to be on time, knowing that the traffic on the Italian highways is very busy on weekends.
We drive all afternoon and until 1 am, we stop on a motorway area towards Ancona.
We take the Ferry as planned, in an Open-deck.
We disembark at the beginning of the afternoon at the port of Patras.
We are heading towards Diakopto because we were planning to take the cogwheel train ride, but when we see the train and the station we decide not to do this excursion the next day. (Modern train and station no nice place to park and sleep).
(Via the Park4night application that we will use throughout our journey) we find a camper stop in old Corinth.
We find this place easily with a great welcome, close to old Corinth. From the campsite we did not suspect the existence so close to the village, with many restaurants and shops.
We pass through the Corinth Canal and note the absence of tourists in this special year. We reach Athens at the end of the afternoon.
We take the metro to reach the center of Athens from our parking lot in Piraeus.
We visit the Acropolis no waiting for our tickets (exceptional fact for such a site).
After this visit we made our first restaurant with naturally a Greek salad.
For this second day in Athens we visit the new city with the market, the halls and the palace with its guards the "Evzones".
We had not been to Athens since 1994, we find a lot of change with a very clean city which was not the case before.
At the end of the afternoon we leave the capital to reach the town of Nea Epidauros where we noticed that other motorhome operators slept by the sea.
Indeed, as everywhere in Greece, wild camping is prohibited but we will override this ban without notice from the police.
It should be noted that tourists and motorhomes are few this year and Greece needs tourists.
In the morning we leave our bivouac at Nea Epidauros.
We decide to visit the theater of Epidaurus, on our arrival on the site we are surprised to find that the huge parking lot is completely empty, we take advantage of this calm to quietly visit this magnificent theater, there are a maximum of ten of us tourists.
After this cultural moment we need to refresh ourselves by the sea, we noted a quiet place on the small port of Agios Andréa.
The place is quiet we are alone, the motorhome has almost the wheels in the water.
In the evening we want to eat in the tavern near the port, we taste a Greek "Mythos" beer, otherwise the tavern is of poor quality both in terms of food and hospitality.
We pass through Leonidion, a charming little town where the shops are grouped together in a main artery.
We do some shopping and enjoy a "Greek specialty" hit. Where we park there is a play area for the children luckily there is a tap, we take the opportunity to refuel.
We continue our circuit and pass through Plaka (a village that we had known a few years ago but which has become a seaside resort and parking is difficult or even impossible).
We decide to continue our descent and arrive on Fokianos beach (after a narrow road)
This Fokianos beach is noted on the Routard guide, and many motorhomrs are stationed there.
We spend two days on this magnificent beach.
There is a tavern and a beach hut, we go there several times given the quality of the welcome and the value for money.
On this beach there are signs authorizing wild camping.
On the other hand, we are always so few 2 or 3 motorhomes.
We leave Fokianos beach, direction Monenvassia, luckily there is a new road that allows us to reach our destination directly and avoids us having to make a long detour.
We stop at Kyparissi, a very typical small village, a postcard village for tourists, the village is very isolated, the road narrow, winding. About ten kilometers before monenvassia we find a place under a pine forest where a few motorhomes have stopped, we will spend a quiet night there.
This morning we visit the old town of Monenvassia, its narrow streets, there are some tourists.
Then we will take a walk in the new town, there is little to see, we do not find a store to do our shopping. We join Vinglafia Pounda.
We are on the beach of Vinglafia Pounda we will spend 2 nights there, we can possibly spend the night in the parking lot of a nearby tavern provided we eat there. We have a view of the island of Elafonissos, the place is really peaceful with a beautiful sandy beach.
In the morning we went shopping in Neapoli where there are many shops.
We leave this place, find a chapel where we fill up with water (N 36 ° 44.2257 E 22 ° 48.7386) we have lunch in Gythion, we wanted to park on the beach of Glyfada or there at the wreck of the Dimitrios, but the parking place is dirty and does not make you want to spend the night there.
We continue, in the region of Mani access to the seaside is rare, narrow roads, we find a tavern which provides parking for motorhome.
The "O Faros" tavern in Karavostati.
We wanted to go to the Kalamata market, we did not find it, we do our shopping in shops.
After Kalamata we reach Paralia beach, we will spend the night there under the Eucalyptus trees.
We visit Koroni town with charm and have lunch there, the heat is always overwhelming.
At the end of the afternoon we reach Finikounda, we will spend it in the parking lot of a tavern.
Friday and Saturday 23 and 24 July:
After this trip we decide to take a two-day camping break.
On the program beach sun and total rest. The only activity is our walk up to Finikounda (About 4km AR) for a visit to this small seaside town.
The campsite chosen at an attractive price, we are right on the water.
Sunday Monday and Tuesday July 25, 26 and 27:
We continue our ascent to Patras, our journey draws to an end.
We always use the internet for parking information and have noted a place in Kalo-Nero, when we discover the place we are indeed by the sea but a difference is made between Greek campers and others, we do not feel welcome.
We decide to go to the Elea site, where we discover a small paradise, many campers under a huge pine forest with water points and showers.
A few days after our departure this place will be evacuated due to the fires which are exceptional this year due to the heat wave.
For this last day we are getting closer to Patras, we noticed an Ionion Blue tavern which does everything for motorhomes.
Indeed the place is really great, a large space on a grass field.
A long beach certainly, not very wide but very long, deckchairs available.
In the evening we will eat at the tavern, the meal is delicious and plentiful.
Today direction Patras, we do our last races before taking the Ferry.
We sail all night, we have a location on board but the heat is still excessive, the heat wave has been present in Greece for 2 or 3 days.
Early in the morning we land in Bari.
We start with the purchase of Italian specialties, at noon we have lunch on the road.
At the end of the day we are towards Bologna, sleep on a motorway rest area.
Road day we arrive in Lyon around 8:00 p.m.
We stayed 23 nights, we did 2 nights camping.
Despite the ban on wild camping throughout the country, we easily found bivouacs by the sea.
Is it because of the health crisis that the authorities are more tolerant in the absence of tourists.
However, there are a few authorized places where you can bivouac by the sea.
We traveled 4120 kilometers (the majority to reach the port of Bari).
€ 375 ferry (Bari - Patras) and (Patras - Bari).
We wanted to leave Ancona but no places due to our late booking.
Cost of living slightly lower than in France. Fuel is roughly the same price as in France.
