Austria 2018 Vienna December 31
Friday December 28, 2018:
This year we have decided to spend the change of year in Vienna in Austria, for that we leave on Friday around 12:30 pm to stop around 8:30 pm on a motorway area a hundred kilometers before Munich.
We chose to go through Germany because of the free highways, we could have gone through Switzerland but you need a sticker and it can only be annual.
The most tedious journey is in France because we do not want to take the motorway because of the tariffs applied to the motorhomes.

Saturday December 29, 2018:
On Saturday we resume our journey, snow covers the German countryside but the motorway is perfectly clear.
We arrive in Vienna around 1:30 p.m., the Vienna area, admittedly a little expensive, € 21, and is perfectly located a few hundred meters from the metro which reaches the center in less than 20 minutes. (Click on the photo of the area for details).
This first afternoon we pass the musikverien room, St Stephan's cathedral and stroll through the shopping streets.

Sunday December 30, 2018:
Schonbrunn Palace, we queue for more than an hour for tickets and in addition the visit will be the next day at 8 am, we continue our visit of the city and admire the superb decorations, at the end of day we find a restaurant and eat the Wiener schnizell (breaded Viennese schnitzel) and a goulash.
Monday December 31, 2018:
Got up very early to be at 8:00 am at schonbrunn castle, the tour with audio guide lasts 45 minutes but the visit is worth the cost, we continue through the park.
At the end of the morning we reach the naschmarkt market where we have a snack before joining the Prater, a permanent fun fair with its famous ferris wheel where we go up, the end of the afternoon approaches and join the motorhome to eat before returning to the center for the festivities of 31.

On this New Year's Eve, Viennese stroll around the city, listening to concerts like that of Stephan Platz and the Town Hall (the most festive place in town), eat sandwiches, drink hot punches. (no refined dishes like with us, even their famous sachertorte disappoints us (too sweet and poor quality chocolate) you should not go to Austria for the refinement of the food.
There are many Christmas markets (Town Hall, Theresien Platz, Hofburg Palace, Schonbrunn Palace etc.) we drink some punch while waiting for midnight and the fireworks display which is not very long, a few dozen of minutes. Here is 2019.

Tuesday January 1, 2019:
On this January 1, we take a tour of Vienna, drinking a last punch and listening for a moment to the concert of the new one broadcast on a giant screen on the town hall square.
We will leave Vienna in the early afternoon and sleep on a motorway rest area towards Munich.

Wednesday January 2, 2019:
When we woke up, a bad surprise, it snowed last night, we decided to stay on the highways, contrary to our project, it took us back to Ulm and lengthened us a bit, but going through the black forest seemed a bit too risky to us.
We arrive at the house around 7:00 p.m.
End of this beautiful New Year's Eve weekend in a very beautiful romantic city, clean and calm and where we feel safe.
