Like every year in spring we prepare our summer holidays, this year we want sun, Greece seems to us the ideal destination.
We have not been back since 1994. Concerns about the Greek crisis do not worry us.
We plan to visit several islands of the Cyclades (Paros, Naxos and Santorini) but like all our previous trips we prepare the main lines and then we refine the program on the spot.

We spent our afternoon on a beach near Ancona, the water quality was not great but it did us good after this stressful trip.
The night was quiet, we were able to sleep in the secure port, the gate being closed from 11:00 pm. In the morning we did some food shopping in the City. At 11:00 the embarkation began, luckily we were there early, it begins with the motorhomes. This allowed us to have a very good location (which will not be the case on the return). Sailing from Sunday 1:30 p.m. to Monday morning 8:00 a.m.
The night was quiet, we were able to sleep in the secure port, the gate being closed from 11:00 pm. In the morning we did some food shopping in the City. At 11:00 the embarkation began, luckily we were there early, it begins with the motorhomes. This allowed us to have a very good location (which will not be the case on the return). We chose the Ferry that connects Igoumenitsa from Ancona, in order to benefit from the open-deck, we have booked our tickets in March.
We have chosen the company "Anek Lines - Superfast Ferry" and have to embark on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
A few days before departure we receive an email informing us that it is advanced to 1:00 p.m.
Leaving Lyon on Friday evening, it is difficult to be in Ancona on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
Following many traffic jams on the Italian highways, the fear we had is confirmed, we missed our boat.

The price of the ferry for the Ancona Igoumenitsa link with a 6-meter CC is 590 €. During these 2 days we have traveled 987 km.
8h00 disembarkation at the port of Igoumenitsa, we take the direction of Athens to take the ferry to the Cyclades.Around noon we stop in a tavern, we notice the first changes since 1994. The prices are identical to our place, many taverns along the roads have disappeared. Around 5:00 p.m. we arrive at the port of Piraeus, we take our ticket to the Cyclades. We do several travel agencies, we find that they all charge the same prices. After reflection we decide to choose the island of NAXOS (Following the reading of guides and website).
The Ferry leaving the next day at 7.25 am we decide to spend the night in the port, the person from the agency advises us on terminal B because this terminal has less activity. We had a quiet night, there was no other mtorhomes.

The ferry for the Piraeus Naxos link with a 6-meter motorhome cost us € 192. (We took the Blue Star company).
We traveled 500 km to reach Athens from Igoumenitsa (It would have been better to continue by Ferry to Patras)

7:25 am departure of the Ferry for Naxos, despite the early hour a strong activity reigns in the port. 1:10 pm we arrive at the port of Naxos after making a stopover in Paros. Now it is a matter of finding a place to spend a few days. We head towards Mikri Vigla, according to the guides this place is famous for windsurfing (which I have been practicing for many years) more wild camping is tolerated. Indeed the place is superb, we find a corner with a little shade a few meters from the beach. We are 2 motorhomes at this place (it is early in the season and the crisis does not help.

The journey is very easy between Mikri Vigla and Naxos, but the wind slows us down on the way back. The afternoon bathing and boarding program because the wind is present as often in this season.
Wednesday beach and windsurfing day, how not to succumb to this postcard-perfect place of the Cyclades, in the evening visit of Mikri Vigla on foot.
There are 2 nice restaurants with a very Greek style, as well as a market with an unparalleled welcome.
Thursday we take the bikes to visit and do some shopping in Naxos.

Friday departure for the tour of the island with the visit of the villages of the interior Halki and Filoti.
In the afternoon arrived at the end of the island at Kalados Beach, we are 3 camper vans, goats and sheep.
Before arriving at Filoti there is a large fountain on the right (Large parking lot very visible on the left) (The photo of Filoti opposite was taken from the fountain).

We traveled 47 km to reach Kalados Beach from Mikri Vigla.

We feel alone in the world in this little piece of paradise. We ate at the only tavern, which was relatively expensive for the meal, however the meat was of good quality. We were hoping to have a garnish with the meat and not to eat with plastic cutlery.

On this Sunday we leave Kalados Beach to go around the island, we go through Moutsouna (Nice village with 2 taverns, we continue towards appolonias.
This side of the island is much less interesting than the Another because few people, quite deserted and no paradisiacal beach, absence of typical and lively villages.
Not finding an ideal place to spend the night or even a few days, we decide to join Mikri Vigla.

Very strong wind we decide to find a place a little sheltered, we move towards Alyko, and surprise we find a small paradise sheltered from the wind we will spend 2 days there, we will be 2 motorhomes on this splendid site, of a beauty and tranquility hard to find in Europe

For the night we will return to Mikri Vigla beach.
We refuel in the village of Vivlos (Fountain at the entrance of the village on the right when arriving from Naxos, very high flow, quick and easy filling with a hose).

Mikri Vigla day Naxos evening.
Before going to Naxos we fill up with fuel, no worries the stations are numerous on the island and the price of fuel identical to the mainland, we also take the opportunity to fill up with water that the gas station attendant has graciously authorized us.
For info, water points and fountains are numerous on the island.
Before eating we stroll on the port where the restaurants follow one another without end with almost identical menus the choice is difficult. After eating we walk in the streets of the interior of the village and taste an ice cream (Unfortunately the prices have caught up with ours).

We spent our last day on this beautiful island of Naxos, we had to do other islands but we remained under the spell of this one and decided to keep the other islands of the Cyclades for other years.
Boarding at 6:00 p.m. at the port of Naxos for an arrival in Piraeus at 11:30 p.m. We opted for one night in the same place as on the way there but we will have had a bad night. No worries to find a place but the odors of gas oil noise as well as a very strong heat prevented us from falling asleep.

We have traveled 507 km to reach Kastosykia from Ahénes. We will eat for 27 € for two.

We will spend the day in Kastrosykia in the shade olive trees.
Our Ferry was scheduled for 22:00 on departure of Igoumenitsa, we introduced ourselves around 7:30 p.m. at the ticket office, and a new surprise there was a time change
(As on the way there, they sent us an email which we will discover once in France, we had not been connected for several days) by presenting themselves at the last moment we had a very bad place on the boat and were no longer in the open on the bridge but stuck between vehicles.

Disembarkation in Ancona at 11:30 am, we will do some shopping in Italy, To end the evening we will have a last restaurant towards Piacenza, we will drive until midnight to spend the night in the parking lot of Suza.

Departure from Suza around 10:00 am for an arrival in Lyon around 4:00 pm.
We stayed for 23 nights, we did no night in the area or camping.
Always under the spell of the Cyclades with the magic of the white villages, the climate, the food and the Mediterranean landscapes.
Easy to bivouac by the sea in quiet places with few people.
Few kilometers in Greece because we mainly stayed on the Island of Naxos.
We traveled 3400 km and spent 974 € on ferry (Ancona - Igoumenitsa) and (Athens - Naxos) Go -Back.
